To learn lifelong, and to teach what I already know. Looking at work and career options that take me outdoors, instead of in front of any sort of screen or phone, and towards the rural landscape.

To be part of a like-minded community.

I have a vast and varied set of interests, and feel that our education systems need to change, to allow our children to be who they want to be with freedom and independence, and fulfill their individual potential. That then allows them to contribute meaningfully to the world around them.

Barefoot Art and Design Studio
2007 – 2018, ongoing

Is a small consultancy firm based in Valmiki Nagar, Chennai. My projects are at many scales, ranging from the small – a book cover or logo for a startup – to large, branding strategy and communications for corporate firms. On weekends and in long holidays, I run Art Workshops for children and adults. With a long-term interest in nature and sustainable living, as well as landscapes and architecture, I will be working on projects in the field of sustainable landscape design.

Barefoot Yoga Studio
2006 – 2018, ongoing

Since age six, I have been exposed to and practiced many forms of Yoga, but what changed in 2006 was a residential Teachers Training Course with Sivananda Ashram in Kerala, where I spent a month going into the depths of my practice, and learning how to teach. Since then, I have taught Yoga sporadically, based on my family commitments and other work. My intention long term is to teach more regularly, and also to learn the Mysore Ashthanga form, as well as advance in my meditation practice. Have been invited by my Guru, Mani Raman to teach at a residential Yoga Retreat near Goa in February 2019.

Abacus Montessori School, Chennai
September 2017, ongoing

Informally for the first few months, as a parent volunteer, I began working with Grade 8 at Abacus Montessori School, Chennai, as part of their farm school programme. This involved travelling to the school farm, Songlines. Since April 2018, this has become a formal teaching assignment, where I work with the children on the farm for 3 to 5 days, every month. I now work with Grade 9, and my role is to help them connect their subject curriculums to their practical experience.

Tulika Publishers, Chennai
July 2016 – June 2017

Played the role of the senior designer, for one of India’s better-known children’s publishing firms, Tulika. My role was to give design inputs for their vast list of picture books and bilingual books, with a focus on Indian languages, and help with other creative work such as their website, and I worked there in a part-time capacity. I have also worked with them previously during my Student Diploma Project period in 1997.

PSP Design, Chennai
2005 – 2018, ongoing

Collaborate with this architecture and interior design firm, on projects. Wall graphics and signage for varied interior design projects, large-scale murals, and also their print collateral requirements. (Ajay Sethi, my spouse and an architect from CEPT Ahmedabad, is one of their Directors.)

M&A, Design and Architecture Consultancy, Delhi
2002 – 2006

This was a Graphic Design and Architecture practice, based in Delhi for four years. My projects during that time were primarily in the area of branding, print design, illustration, book publication, photography and also some web and interface design. Some of my clients then have been Penguin, DK, IIC, IFCPAR, NMBA, Ernst&Young, NDTV and Anokhi.

Dorling Kindersley, Delhi

My first and only proper full time job. I worked with an electic team of (mostly) strong and interesting women, to structure, commission and design the DK Travel guide to India. They continue to inspire me today. The emphasis on typograpghy, and quality of visuals was very high.
The job was great training ground as well as networking space before starting out on my own, and I have since then played either mostly an entrepreneurial role, or that of a consultant in various capacities.
